Alaska Public Building Fund

Alaska Public Building Fund

In 2000, the 21st Legislature created the Alaska Public Building Fund (PBF). Under the PBF, Shared Services of Alaska Facilities program charges building occupancy costs (rent) to state departments and agencies, which is then deposited into the PBF. These proceeds are in turn used to cover the costs of use, management, operation, maintenance, and depreciation costs related to covered buildings. This self-generating operating budget provides for ongoing operations without necessitating a direct General Fund appropriation.

The careful management of the PBF has positively contributed to the operations of the State Executive Branch, mitigated or reversed the deterioration of key assets, and provided a dependable business structure for process improvements and location management.
